THE HISTORY

 
 

It all began in 2012 when the well-known Winemaker Apostolos Mountrichas, enchanted by the unique microclimate of the volcanic island, with the native Assyrtiko, traveled with the dolphins of the Aegean Sea from Evia, Central Greece, to Santorini to vinify the top quality grape in his homeland.

Our philosophy is to preserve the typical characteristics of the native varieties of the island with respect to the incomparable terroir of Santorini. Having the wine-making experience of many vintages and uncountable medals from international wine competitions, we end up with wines with strong personality, fruit purity, balance… high quality wines sealed with the raw beauty of Santorini.

 

THE WINERY

 
 

The winery operates exclusively as a production area, where all of our award winning Santorini wines are vinified. It is located in Vothonas and we all call it ‘’atelier’’, as they are created wines that speak in the heart of the winelovers.

Our visiting area, Avantis Cellar Door, runs from May to October for guided tours, wine tastings, lunch or dinner and is just 10 minutes away from the center of Fira.

SOIL

Sandy composition – a mixture of terrestrial  land, lava and pumice, of volcanic composition. It  has  an age of 3600 years.

 
 
CLIMATE

Mediterranean with strong summer Aegean winds, the Meltemia. Low rainfall. The vines are ‘irrigated’ by the atmospheric humidity of caldera’s sea mists.

 
 
VARIETIES

Τhe Assyrtiko produces volcanic wines with high acidity, purity, minerality, with rich character and long ageing potential. Other indigenous grapes are Athiri, Aidani, Mandilaria and Mavrotragano.

 
 
CELLAR DOOR

A multi purposed venue dedicated to wine. Guided tours, an innovative,  interactive wine tasting, the food and wine pairing of the restaurant and the grape cosmetics – just 10’ walk from Fira’s centre.

OENOTOURISM

Our oenotourism is included in the “must do” list of Santorini.

Based on the philosophy of Greek Hospitality, with cordial welcome, knowledge and faith in our wines, we welcome Winelovers with a different wine-tourism model, interactive as a game, but also so comprehensible and clear.

The old open-air cinema of Fira was transformed some time ago into our quiet Cycladic courtyard, filled with oak wine tanks, Afouras (the large Santorinian barrels for wine maturation – as they called them in the island’s dialect) in the cellar and large spaces wine tasting.

The visiting Avantis Cellar Door is located on the southern part of Fira just a 10-minute walk from the center of Fira.
