Redefining Retsina wine in a new quality context, we have meticulously selected grapes of Roditis variety which grows on the hills surrounding Nemea, in Korinthos. Combining these low-yield grapes with state-of -art wine-making technology, and a carefully calculated quantity of resin from the Pinus Halepensis variety of pine tree, we have succeeded an ideal balance.
The result is new Retsina wine with a color of white yellow and green shades. A refreshing wine balanced perfectly between pine and grapes, its citrus expression coexisting with its aromatic pine resin on equal terms.
A wine that can harmonically accompany the adorable, beloved and far from typical Greek menu.
Retsina is the best known traditional Greek wine. Its reputation, not always positive, had long overshadowed that of other distinguished Greek wines and appellations.
According to archaeological finds and countless written accounts regarding its production and consumption, Retsina, or “retinitis oenos” as it was called in antiquity, has been steadily produced for thousands of years. The main reasons for the use of pine resin used in vinification were the following:
The winery was built in 1997 at the heart of the private vineyard in Koutsi, Nemea at an altitude of 550m. The choice of the location of our winey depended on the location of our vineyard. So, we chose Koutsi which has lower yield than the other parts of Nemea in combination with chalky, good drainage soils and cool temperatures. We strongly believe that Agiorgitiko grapes cultivated in Koutsi have higher quality than the rest zone of Nemea and are ideal for producing high-extract and oak-aged wines.
Our winery in Koutsi is a contemporary industrial building with magnificent views of the plains of Nemea and the valley of Asopos River, around 250m below.
